The movie Jaane Tu ...Ya Jaane Na introduces bollywood actor Aamir Khan's nephew Imran Khan. Telugu actress Genelia in the role of leading lady. Famous music director A. R. Rahman will compose his tunes for this movie.

Aamir Khan continues his family tradition by providing a launch platform to his nephew Imraan Khan by producing Director Abbas Tyrewala’s directorial debut Jaane tu ya Jaane Na. 19 years ago Aamir was launched by his cousin in Qayamat se Qayamat Tak. Imraan Khan has taken formal acting training and was screen tested by Director Abbas, the movie was being initially produced by Jhamu Sughand but however things didn’t fall in place and Aamir had to come to rescue his nephews debut project.

Besides Aamir actors Naseeruddin Shah, Ratna Pathak, Arbaaz Khan and Arshad Warsi would be doing cameos in Jaane tu Ya Jaane Na. The movie is Abbas Tyrewala’s first directorial venture but he does have to his credit great scripts like Main Hoon Na, Maqbool and Munnabhai MMBS. Aamir who is all excited about launching his nephew has put his movie with director Amol Gupte on a hold for a while. Jaane tu Ya Jaane NA is to go on floors this October and would see a 2007 release.

Bollywood Kismat Konnection Movie Review

Movie: Kismat Konnection
Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Juhi Chawla, Om Puri, Boman Irani, Vishal Malhotra
Director: Aziz Mirza

Maybe there is on one in this world who doesn’t believe in kismet but for that single reason you can’t blame or over emphasize the issue of kismet. But the story of the film depicts little more.

Just like any other Bollywod flick, in this film also, Raj (Shahi Kapoor) and Priya (Vidya Balan) meet each other. But despite feeling love for each other the only thing they develop for each other is pure hatred. But see the kismet connection hidden in such a chemistry which turns bad luck of Raj, who has been fighting for getting a better work for last five years in the field of Architecture, into a good one. Raj comes to his fortune teller Hassena Banu Jaan (Juhi Chawla) and describes everything to her. Banu tells him that Priya is his lucky charm and for a better future he should always take her with him to wherever he goes for his job. Raj agrees on it and takes Priya to a meeting with Batra & Gill, a company that wants to construct a shopping mall. But soon Raj comes to know that the proposed mall is going to be made by demolishing Priya’s community centre. Priya helps Raj without having any idea about what’s going on. But as soon as Raj gets the project, the reality comes into open for Priya. For the sake of love Raj proposes Gill (Om Puri) for building the combination of shopping mall and community center but Gill denies it. At the end of the story Priya’s kismet helps Raj once again and Mr. Batra (Boman Irani), friend to Priya and partner of Batra & Gill, accepts Raj’s proposal of making the shopping mall beside the community centre.

Shahid in Kismat KonnectionShahid must remember that audience’s expectation regarding his characters in films has touched the sky after the success of Jab We Met and he must accept films keeping that in mind only. At the same time he must avoid playing the stereotype characters. On the other hand Vidya has tried her best to live the life of her character but unfortunately the character, especially her outfits, hasn’t suit her level best. I guess she must not attempt this kind of characters. Juhi Chawla is excellent in the character of Hassena Bano but the lose bangle in her hand made audience think about possibilities that forced her wearing it. Few scenes with Vidya made us realize like Juhi’s jewelries are put on Vidya. Om Puri and Boman Irani are good as usual. Himani Shivpuri proved with two scenes that character maybe small but it has to be strong.

Lovely Pair of Kismat KonnectionThere is nothing to talk about other characters of the film. Despite its length of 2 and half an hour, the film seemed longer and unusually slow. Aziz Mirza has chosen beautiful locations but he better has understood that beautiful locations cannot make beautiful films. Music and lyrics are not to the marks.

Expectations of watching a good film may drag a lot of audiences to the theatre but they better know in advance that the film has nothing extraordinary to offer the audience. People will surely fail to connect to the film, if not to the stars.

Sonia (Minnisha) is kidnapped in the second scene of the film because the first has her sauntering for an introductory item number. Nevertheless that’s still speedy for a Bollywood film to come straight to the point. Kidnapper Kabir (Imran Khan) wants to negotiate only with Sonia’s father Vikrant Raina (Sanjay Dutt) who is separated from her mother (Vidya Malvade). He doesn’t demand ransom but initiates a game where he leaves cryptic clues for Raina through mediums like nuns and notes and wants him to resolve the mystery to reach his daughter. The cat and mouse game begins with each one trying to outdo the other.

Kidnap has a smart storyline with well-etched plot-points giving ample scope to both its key players to take precedence in the game without overshadowing the other at any instance. But the execution of certain episodes of the game at advanced stages seems too far-fetched and formulaic. Like the one where Raina barges in Central Jail and facilitates the fleeing of a prisoner appears outmoded.

Also what sounds ludicrous is that the organized captor takes literal liberties in keeping his hostage unbound in the house and furthermore takes her to the beach for a bath. That’s an absolutely accommodating abductor!!! The hostage also seems to have access to a designer wardrobe with a spanking new outfit in every other scene.

The commercial considerations of the makers clearly show off as much as the eternally exposed midriff of Minissha. Forced attempts are made to incorporate item numbers, wedding songs and a wet-and-wild waterfall track where the heroine is essentially draped in white. Thankfully the screenplay doesn’t support a barefaced romance track between Imran and Minissha, an avid tendency of Bollywood films. Also the film doesn’t fall prey of the usual setback of thrillers starting off impressively but losing momentum towards the end. Kidnap has a fulfilling climax with an enamoring epilogue.

Favorably the flashback portion justifying the kidnap motive is kept short and succinct. In fact the expressive pencil sketches in the opening credits communicate the flashback gist more evocatively. The chase sequence between Sanjay Dutt and Imran Khan is modishly maneuvered with some credibly crafted Spiderman styled stunts on an under-construction edifice. Sanjay Dutt’s fear for water remains unexplained though.

Director Sanjay Gadhvi strikes a balance in granting justice to the presence and performance of Sanjay Dutt and Imran Khan and making his film a poised drama of man versus boy. Sanjay Dutt is cool, composed and compelling. Imran Khan is effective as the intelligent abductor who’s always two steps ahead of his opponent. However, the natural actor could go easy on his lip movements that appear synthetic at times. Minissha could go equally easy on biting words in her dialogue delivery. Nevertheless the actress looks ravishing and makes abundant use of her curvaceous anatomy. Rahul Dev is restrained in his resourceful act but his role is cut-short by weak characterization.

If you can overlook some juvenile kidding that the film indulges into, Kidnap, at most, can pass off as a time-pass thriller.

Movie Review: Karz
Star Cast: Himesh Reshammiya, Urmila Matondkar, Danny, Raj Babbar and introducing Shweta Kumar
Director: Satish Kaushik

This remake of Subhash Ghai’s 1980s super hit Karz has basically the same storyline as the original with a little twist added to it. So for all those who haven’t seen the original, the plot goes like this – Kamini (Urmila) marries Ravi Verma (Dino Morea) for his riches and bumps him off immediately after their marriage. Two decades later, the biggest music sensation in South Africa, Monty (Himesh) one day suddenly during a rehearsal starts playing a tune and goes into a trance, with intense visual flashes of a mansion, a temple, a beautiful girl and ends up collapsing unconscious. Further a flash back reveals that Monty was actually Ravi Verma in his previous life, married to a beautiful girl called Kamini. Monty now has the grave realization of having been reborn in his current persona. His beautiful love interest (Tina) is none other than Kamini’s foster daughter. From here starts Monty’s new journey. A journey of revenge! How he accomplishes it and gives justice to Ravi Verma’s hapless old mother and sister forms the rest of the film.

The basic premise of this film is even exciting for anyone of today’s generation. But one thing that one needs to keep in mind while watching this film is that it is not completely aimed at the multiplex going audience. It has been treated like a typical masala film aimed at the masses and to enjoy one needs to keep his brains back at home.

The things that work are - The enthusiasm of Himesh in reprising Rishi Kapoor’s Monty. Himesh has given it his all and his efforts show. You root for him in the second half when he starts playing games with Urmila. The action sequences, especially the climax ones are mind blowing. Another good plus is the performance by Urmila in her first ever full blown villainous role. Her venomous act is bound to get her few awards this year for sure. She has even exposed her body a lot in those glamorous dresses. Gulshan Grover (as Sir Judah) in his unusual get up leaves a mark. Danny as the every helpful Kabir chacha (played by Pran in the original) and Asrani lend able support.

But the things that don’t really work are – The pairing of Himesh and debutante Shweta Kumar. They share an extremely thanda chemistry. Considering it is her debut film, the poor gal hasn’t been properly presented as well. In the acting department she still has a long way to go. The styling of the film is extremely poor excluding that of Himesh’s. The set design is straight out of the 80s films. Also, despite having so many dance numbers, there is not a single song that stays in your mind thanks to some really pathetic choreography with those now mandatory firang dancers around. The high point of the original Karz, the Ek Hasina Thi number falls flat in here in its new version. As a director, Satish Kaushik fails to add any independent distinct style.
